Meet Andrej Binder, the Product Architect and CTO at Big Network. Learn about his journey, his role in shaping our innovative solutions, and how he uses Big Network to enhance connectivity and simplify complex processes.
(Editor’s Note: At Big Network we believe two of our biggest differentiators are the experience of our team and the fact that we’re using our own solutions to grow our company all around the world. In this new blog series, we shine a spotlight on those great team members and why they’re excited to be a part of our Big Network. Check out our previous spotlights including Martin Sunal, Paul Mailhot and Edvin Mako.)
My name is Andrej Binder, Product Architect and CTO at Big Network. As a deeply technical person, I have always been passionate about the way the Internet enables communication. I saw it grow from my weekly, short, but extremely well planned, dial-up sessions into today’s complete broadband ubiquity. I have been watching in amazement as a stack of technologies that were invented half a century ago, have scaled to the level it has grown into. At the same time, already as a professional in the field, I have watched with frustration how some of the basic problems that we’ve seen since the beginning, have not been addressed or addressed by complex solutions that worked against the simplicity, scalability and complete neutrality, that originally enabled the Internet to become what it is today.
We founded Big Network with the goal to create a platform that can present simple solutions to extremely difficult network communication problems. Examples include multi-ISP redundancy without relying on advanced service contracts, giving remote workers experiences that are indistinguishable from being at the office, and the ability to securely control the IoT appliances in your home, no matter where you are. Those are only some of the challenges we already tackled. There is much more to come.
As a CTO and product architect at Big Network, I consider my role to primarily be a support role. A role that sets the direction for our amazing team of engineers, and makes sure that our dreams are not only ambitious and valuable to our customers, but also achievable.
I live in Slovakia. I split my time between Bratislava and a beautiful old mining town in the mountains called Banska Stiavnica. Bratislava is a great place for business and meetings, while Banska Stiavnica gives me immediate access to nature (my life-saver during the COVID-19 pandemic) and an inspiring technical history.
I have been one of the first real life users of Big Network. I use it every day to link our offices in Bratislava and New York, with my apartments in Bratislava and Banska Stiavnica, allowing the ability to work wherever you are at any given time - I can seamlessly transition from workplaces and have the same experience. I also use our apps on my mobile phone and laptop to reach the devices at those sites when I am out travelling.
We constantly “eat our own dogfood.” We have been using Big Network as the main technology to give us access to all of our development environments ever since we had the first working prototype. Experiencing the pleasure of using it first hand, inspires us to work on making it accessible to as many people as possible.
